($14.99 in BC)
Mmmmmm! Last night the lovely Annie and I shared a bottle of Sumac Ridge Gewürztraminer when we were out for supper. The restaurant was dark and crowded so we didn't get the opportunity for a photo -- otherwise believe me the bottle would have been in the rack.
For a young 2006, this wine was surprisingly well developed. Juicy and delicious, with lots of fruit, with a flash of acid right in the mid palate to wake you up, and a long long finish. Very well balanced with the sweet and acid. I could drink this wine all night long.
Sumac Ridge hasn't appeared on my radar before now. It's the oldest estate winery in BC, and they are a pretty big producer with lots of shelf space in the local government liquor stores. I guess I assumed they were a big business winery, and wouldn't produce anything very interesting. I guess I was wrong! Their vintner is very experienced, with something like 40 years in the business. Experience shows.
